CNS Breakfast Club celebrates two years of service by dedicated sixth form students

The CNS Breakfast Club, an important initiative aimed at providing free breakfasts to students, is celebrating the remarkable commitment of sixth form students Hannah and Iza, who have voluntarily run the program for the past two years. Their unwavering dedication has ensured that CNS pupils can start their day with a healthy meal in a warm and welcoming environment.

Founded four years ago, the Breakfast Club operates with the mission of serving any student who needs breakfast, no questions asked.  Hannah and Iza have exemplified this spirit, arriving every morning before 8 am to set up, serve, and clean up after the club.  Remarkably, the duo has not missed a single day during their tenure, showcasing their dedication to the cause.

Hannah’s journey with the Breakfast Club began in 2023, inspired by her sister’s positive experiences as a volunteer. “It’s so lovely to see all the children each day.  It’s a bit like a social club, and we have gotten to know a lot of them over the last two years,” Hannah said.  Iza, who joined after hearing about the initiative from Hannah, echoed her sentiments, stating, “A lot of the children recognise us now. The last two years have been great fun, and I’ve really loved being involved.”

Andrew Innes, Director of Welfare and Designated Safeguarding Lead said “ For the last two years, Hannah and Iza have effortlessly demonstrated all five of the school’s values of kindness, caring, tolerance, respect, inclusion and community. Their selflessness and dedication have made a lasting impact on the school community, and we are extremely grateful for their hard work and dedication

As Hannah and Iza prepare for their exams and move on from CNS Sixth Form, they have successfully recruited some Year 12 students to take over the running of Breakfast Club, ensuring its continuation.  The club serves an average of 90-100 students daily, allowing them to enjoy a nutritious breakfast while preparing for their day ahead.  While the service is subsidised, the majority of funding comes from generous donations, which are crucial for maintaining the club’s operation and supporting the well-being of students and their families.
