Careers Week
Over the last couple of weeks, our students have taken part in exciting and inspiring activities for National Careers Week.
Last week, Year 9 students enjoyed a Creative Careers Assembly delivered by Access Creative College. Following this, a group of students participated in an engaging Game Jam workshop, where they worked in small teams to develop an original computer game concept. Each group then pitched their idea to the rest of the group giving them the opportunity to build creativity, teamwork and presentation skills.
At the beginning of this week, Year 8 students attended a trust-wide virtual careers talk with Dr Charmaine Griffiths, CEO of the British Heart Foundation where they gained insight into leadership, the charity sector and careers in health and research.
A group of Year 10 students also attended the Future Careers Expo at the Norfolk Showground, where they spoke with post-16 providers and local employers, and took part in hands-on activities linked to a variety of job roles. Meanwhile, a group of Year 11 students visited Ormiston Victory Academy to explore their sixth form provision and learn more about the range of courses available.
Mid-week, our media students joined a virtual careers talk with Nicole Paradis Grindle from Pixar Animation Studios, producer of the Academy Award-winning films The Incredibles and Toy Story 3. She shared insights into her career journey in film and television, what it takes to be a producer, and her work on the upcoming feature film ‘Hoppers‘.
Towards the end of the week , small groups of Year 10 and 11 students attended workshops delivered by Pathways to Work, where they learned more about apprenticeships and technical qualifications, including how and where to apply.
The week has finished with a World Book Day virtual careers talk from bestselling author A.F. Steadman, who took the students behind the scenes of her thrilling fantasy world, discovering where her ideas come from, how characters are created, and what it is really like to be an author.
National Careers Week has provided our students with a wide range of experiences from creative industries and publishing, to healthcare, apprenticeships and further education. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making it happen!
