CNS is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag, recognising the ecological achievements of its pupils throughout the year. This award highlights the school’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the active role its students play in protecting the planet.
The Eco-Schools programme, run by Keep Britain Tidy, offers a straightforward seven-step framework that guides schools and students in addressing environmental challenges. CNS students embraced this opportunity by participating in a variety of initiatives focused on three key Eco-Schools topics: Litter, Transport, and Waste. These projects were led by the Eco-School Council, whose members demonstrated impressive leadership and dedication.
Among the initiatives, the Eco-School Council Travel Ambassadors launched a successful campaign aimed at encouraging both pupils and staff to choose greener travel options such as walking or cycling instead of car journeys. Earlier in the year, a selection of students took part in the Keep Britain Tidy Great Big School Clean campaign, actively picking up litter from the streets around the school to improve their local environment. Additionally, Year 11 student Josh’s legacy project changed the school’s waste management by introducing a comprehensive recycling system which is now used by everyone in the school. These combined efforts showcase the whole school community’s commitment to sustainable practices.
Emma Cook, Enrichment Coordinator at City of Norwich School, said, “We are incredibly proud of our students and the positive impact they are making. The Eco-Schools Green Flag award is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and passion for protecting our environment. It’s inspiring to see young people taking real action to make a difference.”
