CNS DofE celebrations at Buckingham Palace

On Friday 10 May, Mr Lee had the privilege of attending the DofE Gold Award Celebrations at Buckingham Palace Gardens, in recognition of his work for the DofE, along with six former CNS DofE students who were also invited to celebrate their achievements. Every young person who achieves their Gold Award is invited to attend a Gold Award celebration event at a Royal Palace, attended by a Member of The Royal Family.

During the event, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh addressed the Gold Award Holders in the bright London sunshine from the Palace West Terrace. There were also inspiring and congratulatory speeches from other famous DofE Award holders, broadcasting stars, actors and sportspeople.

The Gold Award takes a minimum of 12 months to complete and has an additional residential section as well as the volunteering, physical, skill and expedition sections. In the last two years at CNS we have had 39 sixth form students register for the Gold Award with 13 CNS students achieving their Gold Award in the same period (the national completion rate for students registering for the Gold Award and completing it is just 4%).

Mr Lee, CNS DofE Co-ordinator and teacher of PE said “It was great to see our former students being recognised for their DofE successes and to hear how well they are now doing in their current endeavours. The royal cupcake and cup of Earl Grey tea on the lawn were also fantastic!
