Sixth form students launch new rugby team

A dedicated group of sixth form students has recently formed a new rugby team, aiming to build on the school’s recent rugby achievements by year groups 9 to 11. This initiative marks the return of CNS sixth form rugby after a long absence, as many students expressed a strong desire to continue playing the sport they love.

The idea to create the team was sparked by students who missed the excitement of rugby from their earlier years. However, they faced a challenge: the existing school rugby shirts were too small for the sixth form players. To address this, students Charlie and Ben decided to raise some money to buy new shirts.  They organized a bake sale, which successfully raised £250. Additionally, they secured £400 in sponsorship from local businesses owned by two of the players’ parents. With further contributions from their teammates, the group was able to purchase new shirts for the team.

“Seeing our hard work come together to create this team has been amazing,” said Charlie, one of the team members. “We’re really excited to get on the pitch and represent our school.”  With the support of PE teacher Mr. O’Brien, who has volunteered to referee and coordinate matches, the new rugby team is ready to take on other schools in the coming weeks.

The school is proud to support student initiatives that promote teamwork and sportsmanship and the school community looks forward to witnessing the team’s progress and success on the rugby field. Good luck boys!
